bed bugs

Bed bugs were considered insects that had long since disappeared from most major cities. As you have probably noticed in new reports, bed bugs have made a tremendous “comeback” and they are infesting many homes. This leads to the serious question – how do you get rid of bed bugs? Honestly, it is not always easy to get rid of bed bugs but it can be done if you take the appropriate steps to address the problem. For those wishing to expel bed bugs from their home, here are a few steps that can be employed to get rid of these troubling creatures.

  1. First, take any lose linen or clothing that you feel are infested with bed bugs and place them in a washing machine. Afterwards, place the clothes in a dryer and run it at very high heat. The heat is really what will do the damage to the bed bugs and probably kill them off. Of course, you cannot put everything in a washer and dryer and since these creatures will be found in your bed and other furniture, you will need to take further action.
  2. Next, you want to actually address any bed bugs that are actually in your bed. One way to do this would be to completely and thoroughly vacuum the bed so that as many of these insects and their eggs can be sucked up and removed. You likely will not get all of them but your will get a large number.
  3. An extremely high heat fan can kill them off but you may have reservations about blasting 200+ degrees onto an object. This could create a fire hazard, which is why so many will not be too confident about employing such a method. Those not wanting to risk the use of a heater could place their bed or other infected area in front of direct sunlight. If the sunlight is warm enough, it should kill off a lot of the bugs.
  4. Steamers can also be employed to kill off these bugs and thoroughly going over linen and sheets with a quality steamer can have a desirable effect. Just do not make the common mistake of throwing out your furniture. Once the bedbugs in the furniture are killed, the furniture is no longer a problem. After you have killed the bed bugs off, you can then properly clean and restore the furniture to its original condition.
  5. You may need to purchase bed bug killing chemicals but you do not want to just head out to the store and purchase the first products on store shelf. You want the best and least harsh chemical product that can be employed to eradicate the presence of bed bugs. You could try a natural product designed to kill off the bed bugs with organic materials. Unfortunately, bed bugs may be resistant to natural pest killing agents which means you might have to employ a chemical product. Just take the appropriate steps to make sure you are using a product that is not known for delivering very harsh side effects.
  6. Do you see any of the eggs right out in the open? If you do then you can apply rubbing alcohol directly on the eggs. This should kill them immediately. When you do reach the point where you cannot get rid of the bed bugs on your own, you will need to call in professional services capable of handling such tasks.
