How to Get Rid of a Double Chin

double chin

No one wants to look in the mirror and see a pocket of skin or fat enveloping their neck. That excess layer of flesh extending down from underneath the jaw is known as a double chin. Some people have genetic reasons for developing a double chin and the natural process of aging can cause saggy skin in this area, but most people have a double chin because they have excess fat stored throughout their body. This is just another pouch where the body can store up energy for a rainy day. Are you ready to make that rainy day happen? If so, follow these steps to get rid of the double chin.

  1. To start, you have to check your current diet at the door and forget to pick it up later on. Even if you believe your double chin is genetic or just saggy skin, you can bet eating a healthier diet will improve the problem at least a little. Start cutting out high fat, fried foods and try to eat carbohydrates only before or during your most active periods of the day. Replace drinks that have calories with water or sugar-free drinks with no calories. Snack on fresh fruits and vegetables so you take in more fiber without a lot of extra calories. You will prevent the increased storage of fat and will naturally reduce calories so your body has to pull from that rainy day storage for energy.
  2. In addition, get some form of exercise every single day. You don’t have to work the chin muscles directly every day. Working the body as a whole will increase your lean muscle mass and your metabolism while burning up calories. When you lift weights, you continue burning an accelerated rate of calories for hours after the workout. When you go for a walk or jog in place in your living room you burn calories so your body can draw from that rainy day storage for the excess needed. You cannot spot reduce your chin or any other area of the body, but increasing overall fat burn will sooner or later result in fat loss from that storage compartment.
  3. Also try to exercise the jaw and chin muscles as much as possible during your daily life. Give up cigarettes (which can contribute to sagging skin) and start chewing lots of sugar free gum; or just make it an addiction if you don’t smoke. Exaggerate the chewing motion to strengthen those muscles when you can. Do exercises like opening your mouth wide, wrapping the bottom lip over the bottom teeth, then lifting the lower jaw up and down over and over. You won’t notice changes overnight, just as you don’t develop ripped abs overnight. This is something you do over time to keep those muscles tight and trim.
  4. While waiting for results from these efforts, start paying more attention to how you dress and how you carry your body. You can’t get overnight results from exercise or diet and even surgery would take a bit of time to complete and recovery from, but you can get some instant gratification by distracting attention from this flaw in your body. Loosen the top buttons on your shirt and open the chest up more so that draws the eye rather than your second chin. Go with a cute short bob over long hair which dangles past the double chin, drawing attention to it. Wear cosmetics that draw the eye upward to your eye and nose area. Even holding your spine straight and your head high can downplay the double chin.
